about

This is the second album from Jazz Mafia's Realistic Orchestra. Released in 2009, "Symphonies From Down The Block" was seriously overshadowed by Jazz Mafia's Hip-Hop Symphony "Brass, Bows & Beats" which premiered the same week this album was released. Needless to say, it didn't get promoted much and with the huge success of Brass, Bows & Beats, Realistic Orchestra went on a bit of a hiatus until firing back up in 2013. This album features RO at their finest; At the time of recording (Fall of 2008) this orchestra had been performing regularly for 5 years as well as members collaborating in many other side projects together. These tracks were recorded almost completely live with few select overdubs reserved. MNO's vibraphone solo was also overdubbed on his song SR 75, which had been one of the band's favorite compositions - He had moved to France, so necessity once again led to alternative solutions.

Recording took place at the club where the band's monthly residency was held. This made sense, as it had perfect dry acoustics and a good vibe. The band's first album had also been recorded there. The band did a rehearsal on a Sunday, recorded a closed door session Monday and then recorded a live show for an audience on Tuesday. "Nightfall" and "Search" are the only tracks from the Tuesday sets on this album but many will be released on a "Part 2" of this album coming out in late 2020 as part of the "From the Vault" series.
