Realistic and the Jazz Mafia collective were founded in 2000 at a weekly residency in SF started by Adam Theis. In early 2003, the residency found it's new home in SF's Mission District where it continued until 2010. Even though the new location was a small room that only held about 100 people max, the crew knew they wanted to expand into new musical territories, sounds and instrumentations. The 20 member Realistic Orchestra is one of the new groups that came to existence in early 2003; part composer's orchestra, part electro/jazz/jam band, part moody cinematic music, this group quickly became one of the Bay Area's premiere live music experiences and was awarded "SF Weekly's Best o the Bay" in 2004.
